Vision Statement

Cyberinsecurity is incompatible with safety. If a threat actor can take control of a crane or any other construction machinery, human lives could be lost or serious injuries  caused. Therefore, even if cybersecurity is not regarded as an important requirement in the wider context of off-site corporate information systems such as those supporting marketing,  finance, planning and supply chain collaboration, construction sector firms need on-site cybersecurity to support safe systems of work.  Yet, it is far from clear that the construction sector's  cybersecurity needs are being met, either off-site or on-site.

It is evident from research in other industry sectors that cybersecurity never arises naturally: the natural position is that cybersecurity does not exist.  The artificial state of cybersecurity can only come into being if specific types of human and machine learning are enabled.

Safe systems of work depend upon people working well within known physiological, cognitive and emotional limits; and since cybersecurity threats can arise at any time, people need cybersecurity to be maintained by machines whilst they eat, rest and sleep.

This project aims to deliver insights that enable construction managers to attain higher levels of cyber situational awareness, reduce the incidence and impacts of security breaches and achieve improved safety outcomes.
